Day 2, Friday - Piraeus / Cruise Mykonos, Greece
After breakfast depart for port
of Piraeus to board the ship and sail at 11:00 AM. The ship arrives at 6:00 PM in Mykonos,
the jet set and sophisticated island. Below its surface however,
Mykonos is a quintessential Greek Island. Hundreds of tiny chapels
dot the island covered with whitewashed windmills. Find a table
on the waterfront and bask in the serenity of sunset over the
picturesque harbor. Depart 10:00 PM. (B,L,D,O)
Day 3, Saturday - Cruise Kusadasi, Turkey / Patmos, Greece
In the morning the ship arrives at 7:00 AM
in Kusadasi where an optional tour to nearby Ephesus should
not be missed as history truly comes to life.
Walking towards the ancient harbor, down a marble road
rutted by the wheels of countless chariots, you pass
architectural masterpieces like the Magnesian Gate and
the Library of Celsus before arriving at the Great Amphitheater
where St. Paul was arrested and cast out of the city. Ship departs 12 Noon.
Afternoon the ship arrives in Patmos at 4:00 PM. This serene island is known as the site
of the apocalyptic Revelations of St. John the Divine,
written here during his exile from the Roman Empire.
The cave where he is said to have lived is now the site
of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. In the 11th century,
the Abbot Christodoulos founded the Monastery of St.
John on one of the island's highest points. It houses
priceless icons and manuscripts in its Treasury. Departs 9:00 PM. (B,L,D,O)
Day 4, Sunday - Cruise Heraklion (Crete), Greece / Santorini, Greece
Ship arrives 7:00 AM in the morning in Heraklion, the capital and principal port of Crete. Just three miles away from the fantastic ruins of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 by Sir Arthur Evans and partially reconstructed, the elaborate Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture. Departs 11:30 AM.
4:30 PM the ship is in Santorini, perhaps the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands espeically at sunset. Around 1500 B.C., a volcanic eruption destroyed the center of the island, leaving a crescent shaped rim of cliffs around a harbor formed in the volcano's caldera. The town's whitewashed houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering boutiques cling to these cliffs, accessible by cable car or donkey. Departs 9:00 PM. (B,L,D,O)
Day 5, Monday - Piraeus / Athens, Greece
The ship arrives at 7:00 AM in Piraeus.
After clearing ship formalities, you will be taken on a half-day
tour of Athens including the House of Parliament, Constitution
Square, the Presidential Palace with its picturesque guards,
the Olympic Stadium, and the Acropolis. Then it's to your hotel
for check-in where balance of day is free. This evening you'll
join the fun of Athens-by-Night including a typical Greek dinner.
Overnight Athens hotel. (B,D,O)
Day 6, Tuesday - Athens, Greece
Full-day free in Athens or you can pre-arrange with our local host to take an optional tour to ancient Delphi or several other historical site excursions. Overnight Athens in first-class hotel. (B,O)
