Day 1, Sunday - Bled - Bohinj, Slovenia
You'll be met in Venice, Italy or Koper, Slovenia after your cruise and depart for the mountains and the charming alpine village of Lake Bled, often mentioned as the pearl of the Alpine region. Enjoy the beauty of its emerald-green lake, the small church on the island in the middle of the lake and the medieval castle on a cliff above the lake. Your visit will include nearby Bohinj, with its crystal clear river Sava and scenic mountain views, before returning to Bled for a dinner and overnight. (B,D,O)
Day 2, Monday - Vrsic Pass - Soca Valley – Goriska Brda, Slovenia
You’ll cross the Vrsic Pass (5,252 ft) to the valley of the Soca River, one of the cleanest rivers in Europe. You will pass the sites of great World War I battles along the green mountain valley to the vineyards in the Brda hill. Against a backdrop of imposing limestone mountains cloaked in dense forests, lush meadows rich in wildflowers, you’ll find a clutch of small towns and villages, including Tolmin, Kobarid and Bovec. Kobarid, a small town rich in history, houses the museum dedicated to the events and horrors of the Soca Front, one of the bloodiest WWI battles. This is the battle recorded in Ernest Hemmingway's Farewell to Arms. You’ll enjoy wine tasting and lunch in Goriska Brda on “The Wine Road” where wonderful vistas of hills, churches, countless vineyards, and orchards assault your senses. The day includes traveling through villages, castles, watchtowers and ancient walls, among the regions’ best wineries. Return to Bled for overnight. (B,L,O)
Day 3, Tuesday - Ljubljana - Piran - Portoroz, Slovenia
After breakfast
at your hotel, depart for the Baroque
style town of Ljubljana, capital
of Slovenia, surrounded by the Julian
Alps. After a walking tour of the
colorful old town with its Baroque
Town Hall, three-bridges and charming
open-air market you head to the Slovenian coast and the picturesque
Venetian-style, artist village of Piran. After a walking tour of the hillside church and elegant town square, focussed on a statue of Tartini - an 18th Century composer, violinist and native of Piran, you go the short distance to the seaside resort of Portoroz (Port of Roses). After time to do a little shopping and walking, you return to Bled for dinner and overnight. (B,D,O)
Day 4, Depart Slovenia
Early morning departure to the airport in time for your departing flight from either Venice or Ljubljana. (B)
